"Play" Special Interest Group (SIG)

SSECR Annual Meeting 2024, St. Gallen

January 10, 2024, 3.30 – 6.00 pm

Children’s play holds a central role in the development of young children. Play is the basis of all learning processes in young children and recognized as a child’s right. Many disciplines are concerned with children’s play and its significance for the child itself as well as for the support and guidance by adults and the child’s living environment.

Within the SSECR we are establishing a new interdisciplinary SIG on the topic of “Play”. The first symposia of the newly founded SIG will be held on day 1 of the upcoming Annual Meeting of the SSECR (Wed, 10.1.2024: 3.30-6.00 pm in St. Gallen, FH OST). The aim is to discuss interdisciplinary approaches and results to the study of children’s play and to talk about the goals and potential activities of the new SIG Play.

Call for Contributions

As part of the first symposia, we are very pleased to open a Call for Contributions on the topic of “Play”. Contributions from all disciplines are very welcome. We offer the opportunity to present your own research or proposed research projects within 15-minute oral presentations.

The submission of the contribution is done by e-mail (see below). Please describe your planned contribution in an abstract of max. 250 words. We expect the submission by November 15, 2023. The organizing team will then review the submitted abstracts and communicate the final decision by December 1, 2023.

Researchers who already present their work at the general part of the Annual Meeting (as poster or oral presentation) are also invited to participate and present in the SIG Play symposium.
